What is Developmental Editing?

Developmental book editing is a collaborative, creative partnership between myself and you, the author. Together, we'll help hone your voice, vision, and narrative execution to help your writing better resonate with readers.​

 

I focus in developmental book editing for fiction. Whether your manuscript is done, nearly done, or maybe only sort of done, I'll consult on the following elements (to highlight just a few) as they apply to the overall story:

​I work with short stories, novellas, and full length novels. We can even take a look at the first few chapters of a longer manuscript to ensure you are putting your best foot forward for readers and publishers!

 

We'll start with a pre-edit conversation to learn more about each other and our goals. Then I'll work my magic! All feedback will be provided using in-line comments alongside a full developmental editing letter (DEL) that provides an in-depth summary of your story, pacing, characters, and themes as well as an explanation of my edits with examples of suggested revisions.

 

To review my work and maximize the benefit of your revision process, I offer up to three one-hour video calls that can be used anytime during the month after I have sent my DEL to you. These calls can focus on clarifying suggestions, ordering revision tasks into manageable chunks, or addressing any areas where my feedback may have not aligned with your vision for the story.
